Joy Mantra is about the joy of electronic music making. Finding that ‘Flo(w)’ state, whilst being locked in the studio and the creative ideas seem to be endless. That, for me, is the ultimate life high, you become a passenger on the frequency highway, time has stopped and you are endlessly transcending. It’s a place that is hard to enter but once located, you never want to leave.
Joy Mantra contains a ‘Shepard Tone’ - an audio illusion that we perceive as a sound that is always rising. It is created by multiple sine waves separated by an octave and going up the scale.
Have a listen to the Shepard Tone from Joy Mantra in the video above.
It can be equally unsettling or joy-enducing, with the psycho-acoustical effect that you are being transported. With this in mind, I used it sparingly in Joy Mantra but it’s a great effect to use within the live environment and I plan to use it in my UK Tour, which starts tomorrow.
