Earth Day 24 release drop: Auntie Flo - Ceibo EP (ASOF 003)
Surprise for Earth Day 24! Auntie Flo returns with the release of balearic monster Ceibo, inspired by the Amazonion tree. Supporters will get it for free. 10% of all purchases go to Earth Percent
“Every tree is a living person, with speech. Ceibo represents all plant life; you cannot listen to “one” tree; there is no tree living alone. When you have terrible dreams, turn to the ceibo, listen and live from within the tree, hold it close. Only with the tree’s energy can we replenish our own spirits and have hope of survival.” Teresa Shiki, Shaur Medicine Woman.
Released on Earth Day 2024, Auntie Flo (aka Glaswegian producer Brian d’Souza) returns with a balearic dance floor monster, his first solo release since 2018’s award-winning Radio Highlife on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label. Ceibo is destined to set dancefloors alight this summer with echoes of Twin Peaks, rolling drums and an epic, rain-fuelled breakdown. It also includes a percussion heavy dub and handy DJ tool ‘rain-a-pella’.
Ceibo was influenced by the writings of David George Haskell, who writes about the Amazonian Ceibo tree in his book ‘The Songs of the Trees’, Auntie Flo brings special attention to the sounds of nature, one of the core ambitions of his new label A State Of Flo. Haskell writes:
“The Ceibo’s physicality ensures it creates the language of the forest that the rain facilitates. Its leaves speak the rain’s language with the most eloquence. In the Ceibo’s crown, raindrops create a sound like river rapids in the leaves of many surrounding trees, giving life to hundreds of plant species. The Ceibo is a sky lake and giver of life.”
A State of Flo supports Earth Percent. 10% of the revenue generated from this release will be paid to environmental charities.
